Description
This image almost didn't happen. I am still not fully certain if I should be posting it. I pushed the boundaries of what is possible on several levels (technical, hardware, software and patience), although, hopefully, it doesn't look that way.... This is a stacked panorama created from 21 images in 3 rows of 7 all shot vertically. Bottom row is focused on near foreground and middle and top row are focused on the starts. I wanted to focus the middle row on the middle ground but decided that stitching 21 images will be difficult enough without having to focus stack everything (photogs know what I am talking about) I think i will stick to a maximum of 2 rows next time because this was quite the nightmare to assemble... ~ 4 hours just to do the pano while both Lightroom and Photoshop where constantly failing to photomerge. Laptop had a good workout... In the end stitching this thing together was half automated and half manual process. I shot all images at f1.4 and 24mm and ISO 2500 but i will stop down and possibly even drop the ISO next time because, and I don't believe I am saying this, the stars are actually too bright. Needed to try this type of pano and it was a good learning experience so lets look at this image as merely that; a learning experience...
Still, being out there and enjoying an unusually warm September night was, well, somewhere on the transcendence scale...
